Weekend house retreat by Alexander Michael

The Living area is basically a simple rectangular space with a polished concrete floor, eighty percent enclosed by retractable glass walls, and single-span composite timber beams supporting the sub-roof ceiling. The roof of the house is designed to partly cover twenty-seven meter long reflection pond and a terrace to create great outdoor places to relax. The region where the weekend retreat is located is sunny so the roof also features twenty panels of photo-voltaic cells to collect solar energy. Kangaroo Valley House is on those retreat houses which are designed to fullfil their own needs. Located in Australian outback and designed by Alexander Michael for himself, the house is separated for two parts, one with the main living area, the other with two bedrooms.

Aluminum windows with a thermal break system and triplex glass, allow for heat not to escape the house and therefore saves a notable amount of energy during the cold, winter months. Nearly 70% of the lighting fixtures within the residence use LED technology. Furthermore, the house has been designed with a domotic – smart house system which allows for further benefits in energy consumption. There isn’t anything unnecessary in its flat surfaces and color theme. The house is very well connected with a flat garden with big openings and features its great views and views of the lush pine trees. A lot of attention was paid to the principles of sustainable architectural design. This house is located in Dionyssos in the prefecture of Attica, Greece. It’s a great example of pure, clean, and modern residential architecture designed by architect Nikos Koukourakis and his associates.

The interior was redone and the exterior was expanded to include a large canopy and pool house. The house has become a great place to live somewhere between indoors and outdoors thanks to all large glazings and comfy terraces. The object of the remodel was to enhance the architectural integrity of this mid-century modern house. The roof was removed and clearstories were added on the South and North sides of the house. This is a remodel of a house built by Mossman and Gladden in 1961. It’s done by Jon Anderson Architecture and won many awards over the years.

The upper volume, which is at a 90 degree angle to the lower level, houses the master bedroom suite that frames views of the mountains. It engages the earth at one end and floats above the ground at the other opening up completely to the views and canyon beyond. A 75-foot lap pool slices through the building and marks the open air entrance. The Jai House is designed by LOHA as a study of the interaction between building and landscape. It sits on a gently sloping site overlooking the Santa Monica Mountains in California, USA. The primary level houses the main public spaces and acts as a buffer to Mulholland Highway.

The extension features a large glazing that allows to catch views of the courtyard’s greenness. It’s relatively small but it makes the house looks more modern anyway. There were many limitations but they managed to make the house more modern and suitable for contemporary lifestyle.
